Frequently Asked Questions

1Q. What is geopolymer concrete ?.

A. Geopolymer is alkali activated inorganic polymer binder made from alumino-silicate raw materials. Geopolymer concrete is made with conventional fine and coarse aggregate bind with geopolymer paste.

2Q. What are the common raw materials used for making geopolymer concrete ?.

A. The commonly used Alumino-Silicate raw materials are industrial waste materials like fly ash, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), rice husk ash, Bagasse ash etc. Earthly materials like Red mud, Metakaolin etc. can also be used, most commonly used is Fly ash and GGBS. The Commonly used Alkali activator is combinations of sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide, or potassium silicate or potassium hydroxide. Nowadays acidic activator solutions are also tried.

3Q. What is the curing condition for geopolymer ?.

A. Geopolymerization is favoured by slightly high temperature than ambient temperature. If fly ash alone is used heat curing is necessary at 60-90 degree Celsius for 48-72 hrs. If GGBS is also added strength gain can be completed at ambient temperature. Generally a major chunk of compressive strength is attained in 7 days.

4Q. What are the uses of geopolymer ?.

A. Geopolymer can be used for making concrete, ceramics and like materials

5Q. What are the applications of geopolymer concrete ?.

A. Geopolymer Concrete can be used for all applications for which concrete is used and much more. Use of geopolymer concrete for structural applications should be with the provisions in the relevant structural engineering codes prevailing in the country.

6Q. What are the products we make ?.

A. We mainly concentrate on precast building products such as

1. No-fines pervious concrete for paver slab

2. Water repellent yard pavers

3. Light weight aerated floating insulating products.

4. Heavy duty road paver blocks.

5. Yard pavers

6. Stone finish pavers

7. Grass pavers

8. Road curb

9. Bricks and building blocks

10. Artifacts

11. Manhole cover

12. Cover blocks

We can also provide In-situ flooring for industrial buildings and road work.

7Q. What are the advantages of Geopolymer Concrete ?.

A.

  • Higher compressive strength (30-90 MPa) can be achieved for various products

  • Better durability than cement based products.

  • Lower embodied carbon dioxide emission(ECO2e) and lower embodied energy (EE)

  • Make use of industrial waste materials, disposal of which is otherwise an environmental problem.

  • Conservation of natural materials like lime stone used for cement manufacturing.

  • Minimizing the use of water used for construction activities.

8Q. Is there any limitation in using geopolymer concrete ?.

A. Geopolymer concrete can be used only for applications for which relevant codes in the country permits. In India IS 17452 : 2020 of Bureau of Indian Standards Permits the use of alkali activated concrete for precast products. This code is attached below
